This position will be responsible for operations at the Taylorsville, MS chemical facility of the Bakelite Chemicals organization. Roles and responsibilities will include safety performance, environmental compliance, customer quality, equipment reliability, cost control, housekeeping, and production.  The position reports to the Regional Director of Manufacturing and collaborates with the organization’s Safety, Environmental, Maintenance, Operations, and Quality leaders to strive for operational excellence.

 

Key Job Expectations

  • Directly Supervises the on-site leadership and administrative team, has direct or indirect supervision over 44 associates. 
  • Ensures compliance with all safety, health and environmental laws, codes and standards, reporting upward as required by policy.
  • Responsible for driving Safety Culture.
  • Provides leadership to personnel to drive continuous EH&S improvement, high visibility on the plant floor driving improvements and accountability.
  • Works with EH&S professional staff, develops and implements programs, processes and procedures to ensure the safety and health of all associates working at the site.
  • Ensures operating guides are maintained, and associates receive effective training.
  • Develops and maintains a constructive relationship and dialogue between the site, the community and local regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Confirms the EH&S management system is implemented and sustained.
  • Collaborates with the Finance team to develop annual and multi-year budgets and plans targeting year-after-year performance improvement.
  • Manages and measures cost performance, taking corrective cost control actions.
  • Develops, leads and directs site productivity improvement programs and processes, using continuous improvement tools to drive human and capital resource optimization.
  • Monitors all plant costs, and explain/approve adjustments and variances, in accordance with the level of DOA.
  • Manages site capital planning and spending to both reduce business and EH&S risk and improve cost and profitability.
  • Ensures site maintenance is adequate and appropriate to support business reliability needs and to maximize unit up-time.
  • Utilizes most effective technology assessment to improve overall process capability, yield, and configuration.
  • Champions continuous improvement methodology usage across the site to reduce waste and variability.
  • Works with the regional sales team to coordinate and maximize efficiency opportunities while supporting and generating value for the customer.

Basic Qualifications

  • Technical bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing managerial experience.
  • Chemical manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication (verbal & written), planning and organizational skills.
  • Solution-oriented leadership and motivational skills.
  • Demonstrated team building skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • Highly proficient computer skills especially MS Office.
  • Batch and/or continuous chemical processing knowledge would be a plus.
  • Distributed control system knowledge and understanding would be plus.
  • Desire to advance within the manufacturing group.
