The Director of Mechanical Integrity and Reliability supplies critical leadership for Bakelite’s North American Mechanical Integrity and Reliability Programs. This covers more than 11 locations in the Americas with total plant assets valued at over $900 MM. This position will partner with the EU locations in sharing best practices and improving MI and Reliability throughout the organization. This associate will be the SME on fixed equipment focusing on MI and Asset Management strategies which include but are not limited to Inspection/Testing/Repairs, RCAs, Criticality Assessments, PM Reviews/PM Optimization and Risk Based methodology. This associate will also be the reliability SME and take the lead on growing the use of reliability tools such as, but not limited to, vibration analysis, lubrication best practices, motor current analysis, thermography, machine learning software and ultrasound technologies.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

  • Provides specific subject matter expertise on mechanical integrity and reliability issues and approaches.
  • Chiefly responsible to help manage the Americas rotating equipment program and direct root cause analyses (RCA) where warranted. 
  • Ability to operate as the BPO (Business Process Owner) in the use of SAP PM (Plant Maintenance) and continually grow the SME (Subject Matter Expert) organization for SAP-PM.   
  • Provides support for major project constructability analysis and support major construction QA / QC and helps maintain documentation history through Bakelite’s M and R organization.  
  • Collaborates closely with central engineering as well as the site leaders, site maintenance personnel, regional project managers and EHS personnel to execute programs associated with reliability and safety of rotating equipment.
  • Leads the RCA (Root Cause Analysis) investigations into large equipment failures. 
  • Must be able to summarize information and be able to support the variance process with the appropriate documentation and management review findings.
  • Executes and demonstrates continuous improvement for the reliability and maintenance excellence programs from the NA sites as they are developed, implemented and improved on a site-by-site basis.
  • Leads in the annual bottom-up budgeting process for the region’s MI and reliability budgets and gains consensus for the upcoming years scope and costs.
  • Leads cross functional teams to determine means to improve in areas of Mechanical Integrity, Reliability and Maintenance Excellence.
  • Recommends appropriate conditioning monitoring tools, secures the budget and takes leadership on program implementation.
  • Trains and mentors site staff on MI standards and practices.
  • Develops Bakelite Corporate standards for reliability practices and most effective technology (MET).
  • Will be part of the Asset Management Strategy corporate team.
  • Leads various teams which can comprise of senior mechanical professionals as well as influencing a global network of mechanical professionals to improve maintenance performance year over year.
  • Accountable for ad hoc RCAs, FMEAs, PM Reviews and PM Omission exercises as required.
  • Indirectly leads a regional network of mechanical professionals to get the desired results to ensure process safety mechanical integrity compliance, improve reliability and drive cost improvement in the maintenance area.
  • SME in use of SAP PM.  As a SME, assist in training regional personnel to improve the overall organizational skill in the use of SAP PM.
  • Participates on global business process teams in the oversight of the design, implementation, and sustaining of SAP PM globally. 
  • Works with all locations to execute the MI program as established for the year and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for OSHA-PSM as well as applicable local regulations so that MI inspections are executed appropriately.
  • Has a working knowledge of the company’s Risk-Based Inspection Software to ensure it is being utilized to provide the most possible benefit to Bakelite ensuring Inspections Work Plans (IWPs) are executed per schedule, and in a safe and efficient manner.   
  • Working knowledge of the SAP EDMS system in order to find the appropriate documentation for the EIT events, manage company P&IDs and store MI and Reliability Process Safety Information (PSI).
  • Leads efforts to continuously improve Bakelite’s PSM required method of classification / criticality and conduct criticality equipment assessments to ensure this information is complete, documented in SAP and available to all associates.  
  • Leads in working with site maintenance professionals to execute the PM plans for rotating equipment and diagnose issues as they arise.
  • Working knowledge of the MRO activities as they are implemented throughout the network. 
  • Ability to execute projects as either a project manager or support of the project manager at locations in North America.
  • SME on fixed equipment focusing on MI and Asset Management strategies which include but are not limited to Inspection/Testing/Repairs, RCAs, Criticality Assessments, PM Reviews/PM Optimization and Risk Based methodology.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Four (4) year Mechanical Engineering degree form an accredited university.
  • Advanced working knowledge of ASME Section VIII, API 510, 570, 653, 670 and 580, as well as applicable NFPA and ISO standards.
  • Ability to manage on a continual basis sustaining programs within the area of Mechanical Integrity, Reliability and Maintenance.
  • At least twenty (20) years of mechanical integrity and reliability experience in a chemical plant environment with at least fifteen (15) of those years in engineering leadership.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills with both executive leadership, vendors and contractors, and site maintenance and operations associates.
  • Must be able to train/share with Bakelite personnel relevant subject matter from SAP usage, KPIs, Budget compliance and critical challenges, etc.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and practices. SAP PM & PS understanding is required.
  • Must be able to implement a regional/global program as developed by leadership and execute within the timeframe allotted
  • Must have understanding of Engineering Documentation Management Systems (EDMS).
  • Must have a minimum of five years’ experience in the area of agency and company requirements.
  • Must have advanced computer skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Advanced (Masters) degree in a related engineering discipline or MBA.
  • Past Implementation of Integrated Database Management System (IDMS) across a region or globally.
  • TAR Experience in a chemical facility is a plus.
  • Training in API 580 RBI and API 670 for rotating equipment.
  • Solid understanding of Risk-Based Inspection programs and applicable damage mechanisms.
  • Previous experience in developing a long-term (10 year) strategy for RBI inspection cycles.
  • Extensive hands-on experience using SAP.
  • Understanding of international regulatory and design codes.
  • Past working experience with defect correction in major pieces of stationary/fixed equipment.
  • Personal skills with the ability to communicate with site maintenance personnel as well as outside vendors and upper management.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office specifically Excel and Power Point.

 

Travel

 

  • Travel 30 to 50%. International Travel will be required.
