Position Summary:

Bakelite is seeking a Site Environmental Leader to join our team in Conway, NC. The Site Environmental Leader’s primary objective is to support execution of Bakelite’s Environmental programs with an emphasis in local and federal programs. The position consults, analyzes, evaluates, and makes recommendations to site management regarding environmental regulatory compliance for successful implementation of specialized and routine projects. This position supports the day-to-day compliance needs and ensures a culture of compliance through direction and oversight of existing programs. The position provides coaching and technical regulatory expertise to site leadership team to meet the environmental compliance obligations.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage compliance with regulatory Environmental requirements.
  • Timely and accurate record keeping and reporting of regulatory data including, but not limited to, Title V requirements, Annual Air Emissions Inventory, DMR, TRI, Tier II, Biennial Waste Report, RMP, etc.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain permits and procedures including the process of data collection to determine emission factors and other required calculations. 
  • Evaluate special projects and any changes which could impact environmental compliance; elevate concerns to site leadership.
  • Site liaison with government environmental officials during site visits and inspections.
  • Lead or support Root Cause Analysis investigations for environmental incidents and events, as needed.
  • Supports the PSM process by acting as the Environmental SME.
  • Support Corporate Responsible Care initiative and Sustainability programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science/Management, Engineering, or technically related field.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of environmental regulations. 
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and self-directed at times. 
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years’ experience as an environmental professional in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Previous experience working with a Title V permit.

Travel:

5-10% domestic travel for training and meetings.
