Sustainability Officer – 12-month FTC – Hybrid

Salary: From £22,000 per annum negotiable depending on experience

Hours: 35 hours per week

Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Reports into: Head of environmental sustainability

Location: Hybrid - A blend of working from home and your nominated hub office, we have hubs in London, Bristol, Manchester and Oxford. Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of time worked in the office is agreed with your manager. Meeting in person is something we value so you may need to travel on occasion to any of our hub offices.

About the role:

In this exciting and varied role, you will assist the Head of Environmental Sustainability in driving forward Jisc’s sustainability agenda and net zero GHG emissions 2040 target. You will be impactful in contributing to the development of strategies and action plans, as well as the implementation of measures to improve performance in all areas of environmental sustainability including energy, waste, water, travel, biodiversity, procurement and supply chain, compliance, and communication and engagement so a passion for environmental management and sustainability will be key.

 

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to developing, maintaining and promoting policies, strategies and other plans or policies relating to environmental sustainability.
  • Monitor effectiveness of Jisc’s Environmental Policy and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify projects that will improve the accuracy and quality of key data sets.
  • Support delivery of sustainability and net zero training for all staff.
  • Work with Marketing & Communications, support the development of a Sustainability Communication Plan. 
  • Plan and write content for sustainability communication to ensure buy-in and engagement from internal and external stakeholders.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experience or transferable knowledge in environmental management or sustainability. 
  • Experience with project management and administration in relation to co-ordinating and implementing targets.
  • An ability to analyse complex data and present in a user-friendly manner and produce high quality reports and correspondence.
  • Previous experience working across teams and organisational functions.
  • Strong numerical skills with good attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
